1998 “Nordpolexpressen”

Sjur Mördre, Knut Ås, Egil Nilsson and Lars Ebbesen (all N)
attempted the Ward Hunt Island Route(Canada) to the North Pole in under half the normal time. The expedition was set to take 25-30 days. Extremely light sledges were especially developed for this expedition. After a quick start the expedition was plague by bad luck. Lars Ebbesen fell through thin ice and was flown out. Extremely difficult ice conditions became the expedition’s undoing. It was stopped approx.
200 km south of the North Pole.
